Richard Wheatland (GMA GAvA) has drawn and painted transport related subjects from an early age. A childhood interest in aviation was soon featuring in his early efforts. In the 1960’s Richard started taking an interest in motor racing and with the growing interest in all things nostalgic, Richard found inspiration in drawing and painting transport subjects from bygone days.

Richard held his first exhibition at an enthusiast gathering on the historic site of Brooklands motor course at  Weybridge in 1983. Since those early years Richard has exhibited at most of the major historic motoring events in the UK. His Aviation artwork has taken him to the US as an overseas member of the American Society of Aviation Artists where he has won a number of awards. Richard is a founder member of the ‘Guild of Motoring Artists’ in the UK and also a full member of ‘The Guild of Aviation Artists’.

Richards paintings grace many private collections worldwide, his work has featured in a number of books, publications,  jigsaw puzzles and greetings cards, with 35 consecutive years producing the annual Christmas card painting for a well-known motor industry charity BEN. Richard is often invited to present his work and share his many years of experience  to interested groups such as motor clubs and art groups.

After 40 years in engineering Richard has now retired full-time to his studio in Worth, West Sussex, where he paints in both watercolour and gouache and oil on canvas, he is always pleased to discuss commissioned paintings and exhibition opportunities.
