From a young age, Paul developed a fondness for nature and dramatic landscapes from spending lots of time in woodlands around Horsham and visits to the South Downs. As he got older, his interest grew and trips to Snowdonia and the Lake District really cemented his love for the great outdoors, inspiring his art today. Capturing dramatic landscape scenes, often in moody weather; Paul paints using oils, in a bold, loose realistic style.

The In Pinn

“This iconic mountaineering feat called The Inaccessible Pinnacle is located on the Isle of Skye and is on my bucket list to climb. Some people say they can see different things in the rock face like a horses head; what can you see?”

Snowdon from Crib Goch

“Snowdon in Wales is a special mountain for me as I have climbed it several times. On this occasion I took the very exposed arête route called Crib Goch to the summit and while navigating the ridge we were met with thick cloud that created this atmospheric scene.”

The Old Man of Storr

“These sharp pinnacles of rock can be found on The Isle of Skye and have to be seen to be believed. I wanted the sky to be as dramatic as possible for this scene to add atmosphere and illuminate the pinnacle tip as if were reaching up to the heavens.”

Ben Nevis and the CMD Arete

“Ben Nevis is one of Britain's most iconic mountains so I had to paint it however I only had pictures from a trip in summer so I decided to use my artistic interpretation and paint it as a winter's scene; everything apart from the shape of the mountain is painted from imagination.”

The Matterhorn

“Possibly the most recognisable mountain in the world; The Matterhorn is awe inspiring to say the least and for that reason I had to paint it. The crisp mountain air of the Alps meant I wanted to paint this scene with perfect blue skies to contrast against the snow covered slopes of the horn shaped monolith.”

Start Point Lighthouse

“Spending many years living in Devon, Start Point Lighthouse was always a great place to visit. I decided to paint the scene in calm weather because it is a really stunning place when the weather is being kind.”

A Durdle Door Sunset

“After a visit to Durdle Door, I knew I had to paint it as I was taken back with how the light hit the inside of the arch. Crashing waves helps add drama to the scene whilst the warm tones of the sky helps enhance the glow of the evening sun hitting the rocks.”

Barn at North Deighton

“I did this oil on canvas painting as a commission for a client's Birthday who has fond memories of the barn and the way it has degraded over the decades. I love the vibrant rusty colour of the dilapidated roof. Beauty can come from unexpected places.”

The White Horse, Cherhill

“I wanted to paint a quintessential English landscape and in my opinion, the white chalk horses carved into the English hillsides are just that. I chose to paint the White Horse at Cherhill rather than any of the others because of the interest in the tree line rolling down off the hillside.”

Christ’s Hospital

“Painted as a commission for a friend who proposed to his wife in this spot, I wanted to create as much depth as possible to give the illusion that they are back in that spot every time they look at the painting.”

Autumnal Afternoon at The Causeway

“Coming from Horsham, painting The Causeway and St Marys Church has always been on my to do list but capturing it in a dramatic way is a must for me so I spent years trying to photograph it in different lights, seasons, and this is the end result. I love autumn as a season as there are so many different colours that come from even one species of tree as it sheds its summer foliage.”
