I paint because I just must and I paint in watercolour because it constantly challenges me. I live in the country in the south of England in an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and it really is. I am surrounded by the most wonderful countryside and, on top of that, the south coast is just a short drive away so I have the sea and the beach to enjoy too. How could I not be inspired by all that I see around me? The panoramic views are wonderful but I particularly enjoy painting the small, intimate corners of my world. They present me with more of a challenge in terms of painting techniques. I have exhibited widely throughout the Sussex area during the last 20 years and have many paintings in collections both here and abroad. Painting, for me, is pure pleasure – if the end product is pleasing to others then that is a wonderful bonus.
I also teach and in 1992 I set up my own Watercolour Painting School, which is still flourishing, and I act as visiting tutor to many of the local Art Groups.
